About Us
Little mill house is an online store based in Yorkshire. I set up the store a couple of years ago after I bought my first house. I realised how hard it was to find inexpensive furnishings with masses of personality. I also wanted to know that I was doing my bit for the environment by reusing as much as possible. In the end I gave up my search, went on a sewing course & furnished the house myself. It turned out everyone then wanted a unique cushion made from an old tea towel or scarf! I made them for friends & family then decided to share my designs with a wider audience by setting up Little Mill House online (I live in a little house on a mill conversion if you were wondering where the name came from). I soon realised there were so many designers across the uk & us making throw away items look great and giving them a new purpose that I just had to expand and stock as many as I could alongside my work, to offer you guys the full upcycled lifestyle store you see now.
INSPIRATION
Colour and texture is so important as is the influence of the gorgeous Yorkshire countryside surrounding me. These factors are very likely in my blood since my dad is Arabic and my mum comes from a long family line of farmers, I'm guessing there's some truth in your heritage sticking with you even when you didn't grow up on a farm or in the Middle East, what do you reckon? This heritage is highly likely to have influenced my upcycling passion too as farmers have been upcycling all sorts of old junk forever (think tractor stools).
Heritage isn't the only source of inspiration though, I travel as much as time & money allows me to, country dog walks are where most of my best ideas come to me and I try to get a trip to the seaside in at least once a month.
STYLE
I believe style should be sustainable, functional, affordable but most of all full to the brim of personality. Upcycled products already have their own personality from their former life, before you continue their story by enjoying using them in your super stylish home.
